Pinay Sex Scandal

When using misleading titles is the right thing...

The word "Pinay" refers to a female Pinoy or Filipino. It's the same as "Filipina." "Pinay sex scandal" and "Pinay scandal" are getting some attention lately, as shown in Google Trends. It shows how often they've been searched on Google over time.

Despite projects aimed at reshaping the Filipina image online, the number of prostitution-related sites and their users is just simply overwhelming.

There's a mini SEO experiment currently running in the Philippine Blogosphere which targets these sites to divert some traffic and eventually push the actual scandal sites out of Google's first few search result pages. It was started by Marghil at macuha.com "Pinay scandal".

So when you search Google for "Pinay scandal," don't be surprise if you end-up seeing most of the posts below:

Advertlets response: Straight from Josh Lim

In my previous post, I mentioned that my Advertlets earnings slowed down to an almost frozen state. I didn't blog about it to get their attention but, to my surprise, I immediately received a comment from Josh Lim of Advertlets. He was quick to say that they have checked my account and said "it appears to be fine."

He continued by giving some tips on which ads to install to optimize my earnings:

- Installing the 165x240 sidebar ad higher up the page. We noticed it is installed quite low down the page.
- Installing the 336x280 ad instead of the 180x150 ad (more ads available for the 336x280 format). The 336x280 format goes best after posts.

He said the majority of earnings would come from Malaysian/Singaporean traffic at the moment. I'm sure he's referring to the upcoming CPM ads. I just hope we can all benefit from them.

Thanks for the quick response Josh!

Is your Advertlets earnings not moving?

I joined Advertlets back in August and have been hosting their ads in my blog for quite some time now. Just a couple of days after joining, my earnings, although very little, just continued to increase. I have one 468x60 banner ad and 2 sidebar ads, one with poll and one without. I was so excited with this venture that I even wrote about getting my first check from Advertlets.

But recently, I noticed that either my earnings would totally not move or will be very slow. I know there's a slight decrease in the numbers of visitors to my blog, but I'm sure it's not that much to cause my earnings to become FROZEN.

Are you having the same problem? Is your Advertlets earnings steadily going up?

Money when you need it

Isn't it very convenient to have money when you need it? Banks and other lenders here in Singapore are now getting more considerate in allowing almost anyone to apply for unsecured loans like payday loans.

Approval which usually takes several weeks to a few months not only take as little as 24 hours for processing until the release or transfer of of the money into your chosen account.

There are also free comparison services where you can request free quotes from a network of licensed lenders. Also provided are information that you can use to make your own decisions about short-term cash loans. Visit one of the sites where you can get information of the sites that offer payday loans.

Have you ever experienced being short on cash? Did you consider taking up payday loans?

Technorati ranking going down

From the Technorati Top 2,500, my blog's ranking is down to 3,800. My blog authority of 1000 plus also went down and now it's only blog authority

What actually happened is that I changed my blogspot url so that I can use http://www.cultureshiok.com.

Technorati is still the leading monitor of the world of weblogs. Linking is still important. A link from one weblog to another helps provide context around an argument or point, and it is essentially a "vote of attention" from one blogger to another. The relevance of a site on the web can be determined by how often a source is cited and therefore considered an authority.

Links in the world of weblogs are even more important since bloggers frequently link to and comment on other blogs, creating a sense of timeliness and back-and-forth one would have in a conversation.

Most of us already know how it works. For those who are still in the dark, Technorati tracks the number of links and the unique source of links to determine the breadth and readership of any author or site. Read more about Technorati and making money online.

Don't stop working on your blog. Favorites exchanges are fine. Getting readers is still the best.

Do you know your ASEAN?

The Singapore-based broadsheet The Straits Times conducted a poll among ASEAN member nations' students on their knowledge of the regional organization, which is celebrating its 40th year of existence. This is also in conjunction with the 13th ASEAN Summit which is being hosted this year by Singapore.
  • What does ASEAN stand for? ASEAN stands for Association of Southeast Asian Nations
  • How many members does ASEAN have? There are currently 10 members. This includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam
  • Does ASEAN have a president? The ASEAN does not have a president. Chairmanship rotates in alphabetical order among member nations every year.
  • Which year was ASEAN born? ASEAN was formed on August 8, 1967 in Bangkok with five founding members, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
Here are the other questions the students had to answer.
  • Have you ever visited another ASEAN country?
  • Do you know other students from an ASEAN country?
  • Is the time the same in all ASEAN countries?
  • Have you heard about ASEAN?
Please leave a comment with your answers.

13th ASEAN Summit - Singapore

From 18th to 22nd November, there will be delays in commuting, especially around the Orchard Road area. Most routes leading to the area will be closed on some parts of the day or the whole day. This is just part of the measures to ensure security for the participants of the 13th ASEAN Summit which Singapore is hosting. Over 1,000 delegates from 43 countries are expected to be in town for the largest ASEAN summit ever.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is celebrating its 4oth year. For Singapore, it's the third time that it is hosting the summit. Member nations will be signing the ASEAN Charter which will give the group legal identity in negotiating deals in the world arena.

Another important issue is the attendance of representatives from Myanmar. The military junta-ruled nation is a member of ASEAN. The ASEAN maintained that they will not isolate Myanmar and will still welcome its participation in the summit. Myanmar has recently caught the world's attention with it's military government's bloody crackdown on protesters, especially the country's saffron-robed Buddhist monks. However, no protest assembly for this issue is expected as no application had been made. Here in Singapore, a permit is required for peaceful public assemblies.

The Battle for Pedra Branca

Who rightfully owns Pedra Branca?

Singapore and Malaysia are battling it out at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Netherlands for the ownership of the 2,000 m² rock outcrop at the Singapore Strait, near the South China Sea. Pedra Branca means "white rock" in Portuguese; a color effect resulting from large quantities of seabird droppings. Black-naped terns used it as a resting place during their search for fish near the reef in certain months of the year. Malaysia refers to it as Pulau Batu Puteh which means "island of the white rock" in Bahasa Melayu.

It was a hazard to shipping not just because of the reef, but also because the surrounding waters were, at one time, infested by pirates. The British built Horseburgh Lighthouse, which started operations in 1851. It has always been administered and maintained by Singapore although it is located some 18 nautical miles beyond Singapore's territorial water limit.

Dispute started when Malaysia published a map in 1979, wherein Pedra Banca was included in its territorial waters. Singapore, in response, lodged a formal protest with Malaysia, in early 1980.

So as not to affect bilateral ties, both Singapore and Malaysia agreed not to dispute the court's decision. The ICJ's decision is expected to be announced by June 2008. It's is final and not subject to appeal.

Getting a personal loan

I've been looking around for a personal loan. Now I know that personal loans are considered unsecured loans because they don't require collateral backing. Those that require collateral are known as secured loans. Are you looking for cheap mortgages?

Here in Singapore, local banks are wooing prospective clients with easy applications, quick approvals, low or 0% interest, generous loan amount, low prepayment fee and low monthly installments.

Now all you have to do is fill up the application form, and submit together with other requirements like photocopies of your identity card, your computerised pay slip or income tax notice of assessment. Some approval may take up to one hour to one working day, depending on the bank and whether you have your complete income documents with you when you apply personally. There's also a 5-minute loan, but after carefully reading the brochure, this referred only to the transfer of the money to your account. I don't know how long they approve the loan.

Before getting a loan, don't forget to read and understand the loan brochure/flyer, especially the fine prints. When still in doubt, always consult with your friendly local banker.

Singapore's population now close to 4.7 million

Mid-year estimates placed the current Singapore population at 4.680 million, a 4.4% increase from the previous 4.483 million. The increase was attribute to the rise in the number of foreigners taking up citizenship or permanent residency. This made up a total of 3.675 million residents in the small city-state.

According to 2006 statistics, 1.26 babies were born per woman, well below the required rate of 2.1 to boost population growth, despite government incentives especially to local married couples to encourage childbearing. Singapore needs to address this shortage plus an aging population for a long-term sustainable economic future.

If you can still remember, Singapore recently projected its population to be 6.5 million in 40-50 years. There are some concerns among Singaporeans on competition for jobs from newcomers as the Singapore government embarked on an aggressive drive to attract immigrants to avert a serious population shortage as efforts to encourage people to have more children failed. The challenge is not the number of jobs available but finding the right people to fill these jobs.

Line dancing...? Get cowboy boots

Line dancing has become so popular here in Singapore. It is a formation dance where a group of people standing in regular patterns of straight lines, all facing the same direction, executing the same movements.

This has it roots in western square dance, thus the Western dress code. For men, long-sleeved western and western-style shirts, dress slacks, scarf or string ties or kerchiefs, metal tips on shirt collars and boot tips, and sometimes cowboy hats and western boots. For women, polka-spotted dresses with wide skirts or a wide gingham or patterned skirt in a strong dark color with a white puff-sleeve blouse. Often dancers wear specially-made square dance outfits, with multiple layers of crinolines, petticoats or pettipants.

Since both sexes may wear boots, Cowboy Boots are easily a choice gift item for line dancers. It completes the "look" that has really nothing to do with traditional line dancing. You can get them online from Metboots.com, they will ship for free on items over $100. They even offer gift certificates.

Happy Deepavali

It's a national holiday today in Singapore to celebrate one of the most important day for Hindus. Anually held in November, Deepavali or the "Festival of Lights" celebrates the triumph of Lord Krishna over the evil Narakasura. Lord Krishna symbolizes goodness while Narakasura represents evil; light in the midst of darkness.

Oil lamps play a unique part of this festival as it is believed that there are spirits of departed relatives who come back to earth and so the lights are the guidance for those wandering souls to their subsequent world. For the Indians, this festival is the equivalent of the New Year celebration, while they welcome relatives and friends at their own homes for exchanging some blessings.

Most of the activities are centered at Little India where people pour at night for evening roadside stalls, booming music and strings of colourful lights. Shoppers throng the streets in search of the perfect sari to wear, or to fill their baskets with Indian foods and spices. Hindu homes are lighted with oil lamps, and offerings of sweetmeats and garlands of jasmine are placed at the family altar. It is one of the "One City, Three Festivals" celebrated in Singapore which helps harmonize people, promote goodwill, and share understanding through various ethnic groups.

Paying my credit card bills

My credit card bill is killing me. I'm thinking of ways to settle it as soon as possible so as not to incur more interest. Since credit cards have higher interest rates, getting a loan with a lower interest rate could be a quick solution. There are banks offering unsecured loans. This means you don't have to worry about collaterals. These are different from homeowner loans which needs to be backed-up by collaterals.

As interest rates, repayments periods, and other terms of each personal loan varies from lender to lender, it is important to find the best loan that will fit your needs. You can browse through several loan providers and Compare loans based on what they have to offer. Check the interest rate, repayment period, penalties, terms and conditions and all those in fine print.

I'm looking for a personal loan that gives upfront cash of at least up to 2 times my monthly salary, with low interest (al least lower than that of the credit card) and minimum or no prepayment penalty.

Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE Underground): Longest in Southeast Asia

Once completed, the KPE is to be a dual-carriageway expressway with three lanes in each direction and eight interchanges and stretch over 12 km from the Tampines Expressway (TPE) in the north-east to the East Coast Parkway (ECP) in the south. About 9km of the expressway, from ECP to Defu Lane 3, will be built entirely underground as road tunnels, using the cut-and-cover method. This will make it the longest underground expressway in South-east Asia.
The KPE, which is being opened in phases, is part of LTA’s plan to develop a comprehensive road network for Singapore. Physical works on the KPE started in 2001 and is targeted to complete in 2008.Drivers got their chance to experience the Kallang—Paya Lebar Expressway for the first time as the first phase of the road opened to vehicular traffic last week.

Do you want to have a look? Check-out the KPE Underground!
