Visita Iglesia is a Holy Week practice of Catholics in places where there are many churches, in countries like Malta, Poland, Ireland and the Philippines. Overseas Filipinos have brought it to places, like North America, that never had it before.
The custom goes back to the early Church when Christians would visit the seven great basilicas in Rome for adoration of the blessed sacrament after the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday.
Here in Singapore, Christians constitute approximately 14.6% of the country's population; 4.8% (32.9% of Christians) being Catholics and the remaining 9.8% (67.1% of Christians) being of other mostly Protestant denominations and traditions.
Start your Visita Iglesia in Singapore by visiting the following Catholic churches:
Cathedral of the Good Shepherd
St. Joseph's Church (Victoria Street)
Church of St. Joseph (Bukit Timah)
Church of Saints Peter and Paul
Church of Our Lady of Lourdes
Church of St. Teresa
Novena Church (Church of St. Alphonsus)

It's a very fresh perspective, as I am seeing things about Singapore from a different perspective.
Keep it up!

Wow, those are some beautiful pictures of churches.
Christians in Singapore??? It sounds me as much absurd as Christians in China or Japan. I do not like imported religions (even if it is true, that Christianity is imported religion everywhere...)
thats interesting. ive never heard of that before.
Those are some beautiful churches!
Interesting blog I must say it is. Nice pictures you put up in this article. I feel like visiting these places at least once in my lifetime.
Nice pics! I miss doing the Visita in the Philippines with my family and friends. I'll probably try that here in HK next holy week. Not so many grand old Catholic churches here though. I like Spanish period churches...makes the Visita a cultural experience as well.

That's pretty interesting, I didn't know that there were that many Catholic churches in Singapore.
Peace.
I was born in Singapore and I had no idea that there were that many catholic churches. Makes you look at them in a different light.

Thank you,

Hi there, just doing my weekly round here. Have a great weekend!
Actually, there are a small percentage of Christians or Catholics here in Singapore. As I am living in Tampines, Singapore, it's glad to see some sizable crowd of Catholics going to the nearest church here - Church of the Holy Trinity. I was surprised with the development of religion here .
Next time, I'll be doing the rounds of bisita Iglesia here in Singapore.

Thanks a lot for the info. It's just what I need. We live south of Manila and for the past years have been doing our traditional visita iglesia around Manila, Laguna (Paete, Liliw, Magdalena, Nagcarlan....etc,), Batangas (Taal, Lipa..etc) up to Tagaytay. We decided to explore churches north of Manila beginning this year....originally intended to do Bulacan churches but after reading this, we'll be doing Pampanga and will probably pass by Barasoain on the way back. Thanks again...
